Polaris - server problems - screen shot

error message pop up referring to the server being busy. Staff Help wants to know when we see these error messages as soon as we get them, and they would like a screen shot of the error message if possible. The only error messages they are interested in are those referring to the server being busy, or when Polaris shuts down abruptly (i.e. crashes). It is important to contact the Help desk (x3000) as soon as these errors occur so that Tech Services can more accurately diagnose why these errors are occurring. After creating the screen shot, please print it and give it to me or Cheryl so we can send it to the Help desk (if you are feeling ambitious, you can try to email them directly).
To make a screen shot of an error message:
1) With the error message showing on the screen, hit the Print Screen button on the keyboard (upper right hand corner).
2) Open Microsoft Word (on the desktop or in the Start button menu)
3) Right-click and click on Paste. The screen shot should appear.
4) Print the screen shot from Word.

computer - abort shutdown

Aborting Automatic Shutdown
On Public Computers

All catalogs, internet stations, signup queues and print queues, shutdown automatically at the end of the day. The catalogs, internet stations and signup queues shutdown at closing. While the print queues shutdown 10 minutes after closing. Customers are warned, 5 minutes before closing, to save or print their work or risk losing it.

If for some reason a customer can not complete their work before closing, it is possible to abort the automatic shutdown. It is up to branch staff’s discretion to determine which situations warrant aborting shutdown. When aborting shutdown you must take into account the following:

• You can only abort shutdown on one computer at a time.
• You must wait for the 5 minute warning to appear on the customer’s computer before attempting to abort shutdown.
• The abort shutdown command only works on internet stations. It does not work on catalogs, signup queues or print queues.

To abort the automatic shutdown of public internet stations do the following:
1. On the desktop of any Information Desk computer, double click on the Abort Shutdown icon.

2. The following window will appear on the screen.

3. Type in just the number of the computer that you want to keep on. For example to keep computer 4 on after closing you will type 4.
4. Press the enter key on the keyboard.
5. After a few seconds, a message will appear on the screen that reads, “Press any key to continue . . .”
6. Hit the enter key on the keyboard to clear the window.
7. On the customer’s computer, the automatic shutdown warning window will disappear and the shutdown process will be aborted.
Once the customer is finished, shutdown the computer manu
